General News: Library Presents Renaissance Lute Music

November 21, 2011

From the Cornwall Public LIbrary

On Friday, December 2nd, Cornwall Public Library will present the second in their three-concert series, “Music of the Renaissance & Baroque Periods”. The program will feature Eric Roth on Lute and will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room. The public is invited, and there is no cost to attend. Advance reservations are required, in person or by phone (845) 534-8282.

Eric Roth has played guitar since age twelve. His interest in period instruments began at SUNY New Paltz, where he graduated in 1995 with a degree in musical performance. He has received lessons from Bonnie Meadow, Bill Matthews, Gregory Dinger, and Patrick O’Brien. Eric frequently performs on the guitar and lute at public and private events throughout the Hudson Valley, including Bard College, SUNY Orange, Holy Cross Monastery and the Gardiner Public Library. Eric’s interest in period music led him to pursue a career in historical and nonprofit work. He holds a Master’s Degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany and has worked for Historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz. Eric currently holds the position of Grant Writer at SUNY Orange.

The Renaissance music concert is part of the grant-funded Music of the Renaissance and Baroque Periods series being presented by the Library. The series is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program administered by Arts in Orange. The Program is funded, in part, by Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange, and is partially funded by a generous contribution from the Friends of the Cornwall Public Library. A third concert is planned for Spring 2012.

For more information about either concert or the library’s Music of the Renaissance & Baroque Periods concert series, contact Rosaleen Leahy at the library: 534-8282 or [email protected].
