General News: Local State of Emergency Declared

October 29, 2011

A state of emergency has been declared in the town and village of Cornwall due to the hazardous conditions created by the early season snowstorm that is blanketing the area with a heavy wet snow. Under the state of emergency only emergency and snow removal vehicles are allowed on the roadways.

Cornwall police chief Todd Hazard said many roads are impassable due to fallen trees and that cars are stuck on the roads waiting for assistance. “It was like a war zone out there,” Chief Hazard said after touring some of the town in the areas of Route 9W and Route 32. “People just need to hunker down and weather out the storm.”

A full foot of snow may fall on the area because it tapers off overnight.
