Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson police have charged two men in connection with a break-in and burglary at Market on Hudson, which was discovered when the food shop/restaurant opened Friday morning.
James Harrison, 21, of Cornwall, was charged with burglary, a felony, and sits in Orange County jail, awaiting a grand jury hearing. He is held on $5,000 cash bond.
Franklyn Rivera, 20, of Newburgh, was charged with possession of stolen property and released on his own recognizance. Harrison also faces several misdemeanor charges for possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, and petit larceny.
Shop owner Donna Hammond says that the back window was broken into and cash that she had in the till was taken.
“It was very odd to have someone break-in,” Hammond says. “It was a surprise and a disappointment.”
Village police say that an investigation by officers Armstrong and Terwillinger, led to the recovery of about 20% of the missing cash. Neither Hammond nor the police would say how much money was taken.
