General News: River Run to Benefit Parkinson's Research

September 23, 2011

On Sunday, October 2, bring your running or walking shoes to the 2011 River Run for Parkinson’s Research that will take off at 9 am from the gate at Route 218 in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson and travel along the now popular route on Storm King Highwy.

The Kelly family of Cornwall-on-Hudson is organizing the race for the second year in a row to raise money that will be donated to TEAM FOX and Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson research. Last year they raised $13,000 and they hope to top that figure this year.

The entire family – children Jennie, Mary and Michael and wife, Ellen – have worked for months to plan this event. Their father, Michael, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s several years ago and he has found that running and a regular exercise program keep symptoms of the disease in check. He is currently on a training program for the New York City Marathon, which he will run in again this November.

The public is invited to take part in this year’s River Run Race. To sign up now, visit 2011riverviewrun.eventbrite.com. Sign ups on site begin at 7:30 am. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in several age categories. Walkers who just want to enjoy the beautiful views are welcome, too.
