Bridget Wickiser is 11-years-old but she has already made it to Carnegie Hall. The Cornwall Central Middle School fifth-grader will be performing in a Suzuki Festival on May 27th in the famed concert space. The festival is sponsored by the School for Strings and features 750 violinists from the metropolitan area who will perform pieces from the Suzuki repertoire.

The young violinists will play in groups by age, with the difficulty of each piece descending with the age.

Bridget, who moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson from Manhattan three years ago, says that she is “pretty excited” about playing on the same stage as so many great musicians like Itzhak Perlman and Yo Yo Ma.

She been playing the violin since she was about four years old. She saw one being played, she says, and begged her parents for one. She has been studying with Suzuki teacher Karin Warner and is an active member of the Cornwall Middle School orchestra and was a member of the All County orchestra.

“I like that music is a big influence on the world,” Bridget said when asked what she gets out of a skill she has to practice every day. “It makes people happy, it makes people sad, it's entertainment. It would be a different world without music.”

Bridget expects to continue playing violin and has set her sights on Julliard School of Music after high school.
