St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) has broken ground on Hollie’s Garden, the newest addition to the Littman Cancer Center. Hollie’s Garden will be a healing place for patients and visitors to reflect on what’s important while enjoying the fresh air, beautiful flowers and scenic view of the Hudson Highlands.
The garden is a lasting tribute to the memory of Anne Hollis “Hollie” Atzrott and her courageous 17-year battle with cancer, which she fought with dignity and grace. Hollie’s daughter Hilary, a 21-year old Saint Joseph’s University student, and husband Allan, SLCH President and CEO, have passionately participated in the development of this project and are helping to raise the funds needed to support the construction of the garden.
“Mom sent flowers all the time, just to let me know she was thinking of me,” said Hilary Atzrott. “She had worked in a florist shop when she was younger, so she always picked out the coolest, most unique bouquets.”
Cancer impacts many members of our community. Addressing the physical, mental and emotional challenges associated with cancer are at the core of the Littman Cancer Center’s philosophy. Touched by the meaningful impact this garden will have on cancer patients and the Cornwall community, Eugene Randazzo of Randazzo’s Landscaping is one of several local residents who have committed to providing services and labor for the development of the project.
“We’re appreciative of all the support we’ve received, and my hope is that Hollie’s Garden will serve as a serene space for our patients and their families,” said Allan E. Atzrott. “The garden is a welcome addition to our cancer program and community, and one that is very close to my heart.”
