General News: Hearing Set on Moratorium Extension

February 18, 2011

The Cornwall town board wants to extend its moratorium on new land use permits for another six months. It has set a public hearing for Monday, March 7 at 7 pm to hear from residents and other concerned parties about the matter.

The moratorium was adopted last September to allow for a review of the town’s comprehensive plan. Since then, a review committee has been discussing how the economic climate and other factors in town have changed since the plan was adopted in 2003.

To date, only one property owner has applied for an exemption to the moratorium, Star Warehouse, which wants to expand its facility off Route 32 in Mountainville.

The town board has set a public hearing on Star's application that will be held on Monday, March 14 at 7:15 pm. At the public hearing, a representative of Star Warehouse is expected to present reasons why the moratorium is causing it “extraordinary hardship.”

(Another public hearing, this one on the Firthcliffe Heights water district, will be held at 7 pm on March 14.)
