The Adult Evening Speaker Series is back! The noted series of lectures about history, nature, archeology and other sciences that is hosted by the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum kicks off its fall series on Tuesday, October 5, at 7:30 pm, with a presentation by Dr. Richard Hull, a professor of History at NYU.
Hull will discuss how Native Americans used the natural resources they found in the Hudson River Valley for medicines, food, building materials, clothing and many other aspects of daily life in a way that created a sustainable balance between humans and the environment. Dr. Hull is the historian of the town of Warwick and has a long association on the boards of the Lower Hudson Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and the Orange County Land Trust.
The Fall Evening Speakers Series will be held each Tuesday through October at the Cornwall Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall where you can hear stimulating talks about history, nature and the arts. Here’s what you have to look forward to later this month:
October 12 -- Unlikely Kindred Spirits: A New Vision of Nature in the Works of Asher B. Durand and Henry David Thoreau. By Dr. H. Daniel Peck, John Guy Vassar Professor of English.
October 19 -- Why did Thomas Jefferson establish the U.S. Military Academy? By Christine and Robert McDonald.
October 26 - Minding the Body of Earth: On the Meanings of Environmental Awareness. By Dr. Matthew C. Ally
The Cornwall Presbyterian Church is located at 222 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson. There is a suggested donation: $7; museum and church members: $5.
