At the meeting about helping the youth of Cornwall on Tuesday night, the subject of the so-called “Jersey Boys,” came up in a discussion of the real threats to Cornwall youth. Police chief Charles Williams said focus on the Jersey Boys was misplaced and that is was dangerous to talk about “running them out of town.”
Concern about the impact of the Jersey boys was expressed to the Town Board last week by village resident Lee Murphy, who said the fear was that “the Jersey boys serve as a pied piper to our youth.” Murphy also noted that the attention the Jersey boys received “nurtured a vigilante group to drive them out of the village.”
On at least two occasions this month, police reports show that one of the “Jersey Boys,” was the target of an alleged theft from his car and that he also called the police because he feared he was about to be beaten up by local kids who wanted to drive him out of Cornwall.
There is currently no official word in the village about the whereabouts of the “Jersey Boys.” Last week, the mayor announced that one of them was living in New Windsor and the second one was in the Orange County Jail. Jail records show that Daniel Vieth was arrested on October 15 in Cornwall for possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property and was released on $1500 bail the next day.
Meanwhile, the mother of one of the “Jersey Boys” wrote a Letter to the Editor about her son. Read it here.
