General News: Police Charge Arson in Car Fire

A car fire on Saturday morning in Cornwall has led police to charge a New Windsor couple with setting the 2006 Honda Accord ablaze in order to collect on its insurance coverage.
Cornwall police chief Todd Hazard reports that the Cornwall fire department responded shortly after 8:30 am to the car fire in a parking lot off Industry Drive, where they found the vehicle fully engulfed by flames. A fire investigator determined that the blaze had started in the interior of the car and the car’s owner, Melissa DeStefano, 32, and her boyfriend, Armando Castaneda, 56, admitted to police that they had started the fire, Hazard said.
DeStefano and Castaneda were charged with arson in the third degree, a class C felony, attempted insurance fraud in the third degree, a class D felony, and conspiracy in the fourth degree, a class E Felony. Both were arraigned before Town Justice Thomson and released to reappear in the Cornwall Justice Court on June 17, 2010

The criminals choice of method, location, and confession make them idiots. Deciding to commit insurance fraud in the first place, makes them idiots.
BTW, anyone who thinks investigating crime is easy, is also an idiot.
