General News: Chorus Students Win National Contest

Two middle school students have won top honors for their songwriting. Seventh-graders Sarah Henry and Bethany Doyle were among the members of the Cornwall Central Middle School chorus who wrote lyrics for “The Green Anthem” as part of a national contest.
Both Henry and Doyle took part in the World’s Largest Concert, which was created by the National Association for Music Education in 1985. Choral director Valerie Ransbottom said that this was the first year that Cornwall singers took part in the program in which students around the world all sing the same songs. The Cornwall chorus also videotaped its performance and it is available to watch below.
The contest was part of the World’s Largest Concert and Ransbottom said that three Cornwall students submitted lyrics to “The Green Anthem” and Sarah Henry’s won first place while Doyle took second place.
