General News: Scholarships Available for Seniors

April 08, 2010

From St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital

St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Foundation will award four scholarships to graduating high school seniors entering an accredited university or community college, in recognition of scholastic achievements and volunteerism.

“We’re proud to give back to our community and pleased to provide these scholarships each year to support our local students,” said Sue Sullivan Vice President, Development and Government Affairs, Executive Director, Foundation. “These students are the future leaders of our community — many of whom donate their time and talents to our hospital. We want to help them pursue their dreams.”

Albert M. Berkelhamer Memorial Scholarship: $1,000

Candidate must have completed 50 hours of community service at the Cornwall campus of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) and must demonstrate scholastic achievement.  This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of family and friends of Albert M. Berkelhamer.

Michael L. Pappis, MD Memorial Scholarship: $1,500

Candidate must plan to pursue a career in the medical field, demonstrate scholastic achievement, and actively participate in community service and extracurricular activities. The SLCH medical staff and the Pappis Family established a lasting memorial tribute to Dr. Michael Lukas Pappis through the creation of this scholarship fund.

St. Luke’s Cornwall Auxiliary Scholarship (2): $1,000

Candidates must be a graduating high school student and a child of an SLCH employee, and/or an active SLCH Volunteer. They must also demonstrate scholastic achievement and have an interest in pursuing a career in a health-related field. Two scholarships will be awarded.
This scholarship is made possible by the generosity of SLC Auxiliary.

Scholarship applications are available from school guidance counselors on the SLCH website. Application deadline is April 26, 2010. For more information regarding scholarships or to become an SLCH Volunteer, call (845) 568-2391, visit stlukescornwallhospital.org/volunteers or e-mail [email protected].
