General News: Yard Waste Pick Up

March 10, 2010

If you have fallen branches and limbs from last week’s storm, the town highway department and village department of public works are telling residents that they will pick up the debris that if it is left at the curbside. They do ask for people to be patient because of the large amount of yard waste that was left in the wake of the blizzard.

Both the town and the village crews will be coming around with a chipper to help with the clean-up process. Cornwall highway superintendent Robert Conley said he has two crews out today picking up debris. Cornwall-on-Hudson’s DPW chief Dave Halvorsen said it may be a week before his crews can begin picking up the large limbs and branches.

Halvorsen advises residents to leave the debris is an area that doesn’t impede vehicle or foot traffic or regular garbage pick-up. Both men said that the refuse should not be bundled up and Conley noted that there is no limit on the size of the limbs. “We’ve got to help the people out,” he said. “I don’t have a problem picking it up.”

Comments:

Thank you, Mr.Conley and Mr. Halvorsen. There are countless people in this town that will appreciate it.

Thanks guys! That will be a great help. I just hope I can take advantage of this service! It will probably take me until late spring to get our particular mess to the curb!

That is generally the policy; they pick up brush but not limbs - I guess that this is an exception due to the amount of damage. Or, we could have a village wide bonfire day! Woo! that'd be scary!
