General News: Key Food Suffers After Power Outage

The future of the Key Food Marketplace store on Quaker Avenue in Cornwall was dealt another blow by the storm-related power outages ten days ago. After the store lost power on February 26, the store’s regional manager ,Tony Angelucci, said he took all the perishable deli, meat, dairy and produce items to the chain’s store in Highland Falls.  One week later, the shelves have not been re-stocked.

On Sunday morning, the Key Food store in Cornwall did not open its doors. The daily delivery of newspapers sat unopened on the sidewalk outside.

The store did open on Monday, but only bananas and a few avocados sat in the produce cases. The meat and cheese cases were empty, too, although shoppers could still pick up milk, eggs, bread and a number of staple items in the store.

In a brief phone interview, Tony Angelucci said that he really doesn’t know what is going on. “I know there are other people coming in who may be interested in the store,” he said. “But I don’t see a future for us.”

Key Food Marketplace has occupied the store at Cornwall Plaza for eight years. It took over after Grand Union, which had been a fixture in Cornwall for decades, went bankrupt and was purchased by a food wholesaler that sold the Cornwall and Highland Falls store to JGS Corporation/Key Food Marketplace in 2002

Comments:

I feel badly for the employees, most are local kids trying to make a buck.
