General News: Recent Problems Don't Hamper Snow Removal

February 25, 2010

While the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson pursues an effort to bring in an independent engineer to study the DPW garage on Shore Road, the DPW crews are busy working overtime to remove snow from the village roadways and sidewalks in the midst of a major snowstorm.

On Wednesday night, the town highway department opened its mechanic’s bay to two village snow plows that needed emergency repairs. The DPW garage has been closed since last Friday under orders of the building inspector.

Town of Cornwall highway superintendent said he offered assistance to the DPW as soon as he heard about the closing of that garage. Bob Conley said that his crews are going full steam in town, operating ten plows and a backhoe to clear the streets of the snow. Conley said that they could be working through the night, catching breaks here and there.

DPW supervisor Dave Halvorsen said his crews will be working through the night as well to provide services that village residents are accustomed to. “The guys have really stepped up under the circumstances to serve the community despite the difficult time we are going through.”

Comments:

I dont know Dave or his crew but they do a fantastic job. I hope they get the DPW building open for them asap.Working outside all the time it is important for them to have a building or barn to get back into. Keep up the good work guys.

I agree. Our DPW guys are hard-working and dedicated. They must be exhausted after this storm!

Hats off to Dave and our entire DPW crew. They're doing a great job under circumstances, both building- and weather-wise, over which they had no control.

They deserve a sound building which is safe to work in. Hopefully the questions about that will be resolved properly, and soon.
