General News: Violations Likely for River Bank

February 25, 2010

The River Bank restaurant is slated to be the next target of building code violations to be issued by the new village inspector, Bruce Yancewicz.

Yancewicz told the village trustees that the state code enforcer came down to Cornwall-on-Hudson to review the violations that he planned to issued to Tony Missere, the restaurant’s owner, next week. Yancewicz said he went over all his concerns about the restaurant with the state representative because he wanted to be sure that there were no mistakes made in the case.

When asked by the manager of the restaurant, Lucie Provencher, how his investigation got started, Yancewicz said he had a “package of complaints” from Ray Yannone, who owns the building next door.

Yannone and Missere have been in a protracted dispute about the adjoining businesses, a dispute that began when the village trustees approved an outdoor patio at The River Bank in the final hours of the administration of Mayor Moulton in 2007. Missere is currently suing Mayor Gross and members of the zoning board in federal court, charging that his right to due process has been denied.

Comments:

What's tragic for all of us are the continuing turf wars in our tiny business district between increasingly petty property owners.

Result? The whole community is held back from constructive growth of a business base. And, for lack of that, we all pay higher taxes.

Great.

One of the techniques that I used in the classroom for students who were constantly "at each other" was to threaten them with a paired project if they didn't learn to be civil to each other. Follow through was NEVER necessary... Maybe we should put Tony and Ray in charge of village wide snow removal, give Dave and his guys some respite.

This would be a great time for a mediation. That would perhaps result in a harmonius meeting of the minds.
