County Runners Will Come to Cornwall

The Fall Harvest Run sponsored by the Cornwall Lions Club has been adopted by the Orange County Racing Club. The 7.5K, 5K and children’s Fun Run through the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson will be part of the club’s Grand Prix of race starting in 2010. Race organizer Rich Gaylord told the village board on Monday that he expects that 80 to 120 additional racers will be attracted to the race next year. The village board approved holding the race on the second Sunday in November and told Gaylord to find parking for the 350 runners who will be expected to participate.

DCJS Study Under Discussion

On Monday, village trustees discussed the study on police efficiency that was recently completed by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and agreed that the study’s failure to accept minor corrections cast a negative light on the entire study.

Trustee Rick Gioia noted the report concludes that the village pays $532,00 to run its police department and another $200,000 to the town for dispatch services, dog control and court officers. He said that the village should look at whether the village is paying its fair share for these services, compared with other costs.
