General News: Cornwall Chamber Elects New Officers

December 15, 2009

The Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce has elected a new president. Former Cornwall town supervisor Helen Bunt will take over the office on January 1st, 2010.

Bunt, who is the owner of the Butterhill Day School on Main Street in Cornwall and Ariel’s Child in New Windsor, took the position five months after dropping out of the race for a seat on the town council citing personal reasons. She also resigned her position on the planning board in October.

Bunt will be joined on the executive board of the chamber by vice president Gail Parrnello, owner of the Cornwall Yarn Shop, secretary Arlene DeSocio, of Walden Savings Banks, treasurer Gary Smith, of Rank & Smith CPAs, and board members Mary Davis Clark, of Clark & Associates, Jack Trowel, of Cromwell Manor Inn, Angela Calabro, of Giftworks, Wynn Gold, of Auric Packaging and Mary Lulves of Lulves Funeral Home.

The chamber also recognized the contributions of outgoing president Julie Bush and outgoing 2nd vice president Tom Quinlan.

Comments:

Oh, congrats to Helen! Butterhill looks so pretty with all the lights! I hope that in her new position she will find a way to get a town and village-wide effort to decorate our storefronts and make things more festive! Every time I drive down Main Street I wonder why we don't have holiday banners along the street or lanterns, or something to decorate our adorable town for the holidays.

Helen,
I encourage you to seek out grant funds to improve the storefronts of Cornwall. Several other communities such as Beacon have been successful. Perhaps the Hudson River Greenway would help fund a feasibility study to get this off the ground. Cornwall has the potential to improve its charm, the businesses that have been loyal deserve this support.
