General News: Pair Arrested in Car Larceny

July 29, 2009

Cornwall-on-Hudson police charged two local teenagers with petty larceny on Tuesday after they were caught with items stolen from area vehicles during the early morning hours.

Village police chief Charles Williams says the pair, a 17-year-old male from Cornwall-on-Hudson and an 18-year-old male from Cornwall, were picked up on Duncan Avenue.  An eyewitness who lives on that street spotted the teens around 3:45 a.m.  tiptoeing through her backyard with flashlights, then approaching a neighbor’s vehicle.

Chief Williams says the police received reports of several vehicles that were rifled through on Duncan and Wood Avenues.  He also notes that the teens had a number of items that have not been reported missing and he asks anyone who has things missing from their vehicles to file a report with the police.

The 18-year-old male was also charged with petty larceny by Cornwall police, who have tied him to a larceny from a vehicle in town.

One woman who reported that her GPS had been stolen Monday night from her vehicle in Cliffside Park called police on Wednesday to say that when she went out to her car that morning, the GPS was sitting on the hood, Williams said.

In a separate incident, village police have charged 20-year-old David Fenton with assault in the third degree.  Police say Fenton was part of a group of four men who assaulted a 24-year-old village resident last week.  (See story.)  The other three alledged assailants were charged immediately following the incident. Fenton was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Comments:

Good alert neighbors with the courage to call the authorities are awesome!
Great Job!!

Tip of the Day:
At night, lock your car.
As far as I've ever read all these thefts involve unlocked cars.
These kids aren't looking to smash a window, they just want an easy grab.
If we stop being easy victims these bored kids would eventually get a job. Stop thinking crime doesn't happen here, help prevent it, and get involved.
