General News: Three Arrested in Village Assault

July 26, 2009

An assault in the alley behind Cumberland Farms late Wednesday night ended in the arrest of three teens.

Cornwall-on-Hudson police chief Charles Williams said that a 24-year-old man from the village was lured behind the convenience store shortly after midnight by four young men who knew him.  Once there, the group pummeled the unidentified man, leaving him with contusions and a slight concussion, according to Williams, who said the man was treated and released at Cornwall hospital.   A resident of Duncan Avenue heard the commotion and called police, he said.

Arrested were James Pedicini, 19, of Highland Falls, a 17-year-old male from New Windsor and a 16-year-old male from Cornwall.  Police charged all three with assault in the third degree.  Police are seeking a fourth man in the case, which is still under investigation.

Comments:

four of them to gang up on one guy? They must be trying to compensate for their...uh....shortcomings..

I had to re-post my comment, as apparently free speech is banned in Cornwall-on-Hudson now.

Editor - I feel that Ms. Benson's comment about the accused (yes, accused they have not been proven guilty) is also inappropriate and should be removed.

I'm sure the police didn't pull just anyone off the street and charge them with this crime. Citizens have the right to admonish crimes when they happen and the courts will scrutinize the evidence and hopefully create peace for the law abiding citizens. Kate is a law abiding citizen and is not subject to ones criticisms especially the post the editor removed.Kudos to the Editor.

I missed what the removed comment was, so I am not going to speak to that. However, the last I check this was not Cornwall on Husdon, this is a moderated website. The point of a moderator is to do just that. Just a thought.

oh, how can I resist?!Please explain, Theresa, how my comment is inappropriate. Sadly, we will not get to evaluate the merits of your own comment as the editor has seen fit to remove it. If I may extrapolate on my comment, and I certainly will, if one man cannot see himself as capable of beating up another, but feels the need to enlist help (of THREE other guys), does that not indicate that he feels his abilities are insufficient? If his abilities are insufficient, isn't that a shortcoming? Is it the double entendre that bothers you? Then say so. Because I have a feeling that would open a whole new arena for play, tsk, no pun intended.
And John, that "law-abiding " stuff, I am sorry I have fallen short . I (my car) got a parking ticket at the riverfront, DESPITE the 30 minute allowance for art appreciation. And the cop couldn't even get my name right even though he has harassed my son a thousand times. (Nothing like developing a relationship with the community) oh, but let me not detract from the riveting matter at hand. I say re-post the banned comment! Open the gates! Let the drama begin!
