If you have been impressed by the professionalism of recent drama productions at Cornwall high school, you are not alone.  A regional awards program has given eleven honors to two recent shows, “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940,” last fall’s presentation, and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” a musical that was presented last month at the school.

The Cornwall high school drama club productions competed against 12 other schools in the Dutchess Community College Performing Arts Award Competition to win three “Best” awards and eight “Honorable Mentions.”

The top honors went to Rich Aufiero, who won Best Director of a Play for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,”  Tony Ravinsky, who won Best Scenic Design of a Play for the set of "Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, and Dan Distasio, who won Best Actor in a Play for his role as Eddie in "Musical Comedy Murders of 1940."

In addition to Distasio, who is a senior at the high school, two other students received Honorable Mentions:  Alex Hauserman and Sarah Alestalo.  The entire chorus of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” was also honored.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Poughkeepsie on May 27, when clips from each production will be screened and the recipients will be called up on stage to receive their trophy or certificate.
