The next time you drive by Village Hall, take a look up the flagpole out front. You’ll see a white flag flying with the emblem of Explore NY 400, a sign that Cornwall-on-Hudson is an official part of the Quadricentennial celebration of the voyages of Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain and the first successful launching of a steamship by Robert Fulton.

At Monday’s village board meeting, trustee Barbara Gosda, a history lover, read a proclamation from the statewide Explore NY 400 committee that recognizes the village committee as an official quadricentennial committee that promotes a sense of history and sense of place.

Trustee Gosda said she had to make many phone calls to get the official recognition but that it was worth it. The village received two flags along with the proclamation. The second flag is scheduled to be raised in the village square, next to the bandstand.
