General News: Cornwall United Soccer Team Results

September 20, 2007

U9 RANGERS-
The Rangers dropped their second game of the season to the Washingtonville Blue Bombers 4-0. The Rangers put in a great effort, allowing two goals in each half while putting pressure on their opponents the entire game.

Returning veteran Max Cameron led the defense, with Ian Anderson offering plenty of assistance at both ends. J.R. Rinaldi had some late chances in the box, but came away short.  It was a great effort by all.

U10 ROVERS-
The U-10 Rovers came out on the short side of a 6-1 match against the Minisink Green Bulls.  Salatiel Carino scored the one goal for Cornwall.  Raffaele Aversa stepped up and played an excellent game.

U12 DRAGONS ’96-
The U12 boys tied the Wappingers Tomahawks 1-1.

The lone Cornwall goal was scored by Damon Neil.  All played well in position and demonstrated an exceptionally strong defensive effort.  Outstanding teamwork.

U13 COBRAS
The Cobras avenged two spring losses with a convincing 4-0 victory over a tough Rhinebeck team.

The mid-field dominated play and the defense clamped down allowing only three shots on goal all day.  Offensive highlights included goals by Edmond Myers, Jake Ross, and two (2) by Eddie Flores.

OVER 30 MEN’S
The Cornwall United Over 30 men’s team played to a 2-2 draw Sunday morning in their EDSL home opener.

Cornwall went down 2 goals in the first half and fought back to take one point in the standings.  Lucio Gonzales scored on a breakaway late in the first half and Marcos Corderro finished a penalty kick with 5 minutes left to play in the match.   Cornwall had a chance to go ahead with a header by Jeff Moulton and a shot by Denis O’Keefe, both wide of the goal.  Tom Keefer was solid in the net and the defense led by John Anderson, Colin Seitz, Greg Bruno and Cano Gonzales held the speedy LaGrange offense in check.  Mario Hererra excelled in midfield.  The men play at Newburgh next week.

U8 BOYS DEVELOPMENTAL
The Cornwall United U8 Dragons (1st and 2nd graders) met up with Clarkstown in their first match ever and came out of it with a 3-1 victory.

The boys had a great time showing off their new foot skills to family and friends while playing as a team. Jake Schulman and Marco Sprenkle had the goals while Gavin Mannion patrolled the middle of the field for all loose balls. A defensive wall was put up by Trace Toweson and Zach Spagnoli.

This team is a developmental team so anyone interested in training with the team should contact Eric Toweson at 845-667-1708 for more information.
