In a surprise move, Bob Gilmore, the superintendent of the Department of Public Works (DPW) for the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson has announced his retirement from the position he has held for 25 years.
In a letter to the village board of trustees, Gilmore said that he was retiring effective October 31, 2007 after 36 years in the department, 25 of them as superintendent. He noted his many pleasant relationships with people in the village.
The mayor and each of the village board members recognized his dedication to public works. “I’ve worked with a lot of highway superintendents,” said Mark Edsall, a board member and professional engineer, “No one has shown as honest an effort as Bob.”
Board member William Fogarty thanked him for saving a lot of money for the village with his work over the years.
No announcement was made regarding Gilmore’s replacement.
