A Cornwall-on-Hudson couple who created a program for families with a parent who has a life-threatening illness reports that another group enjoyed a special weekend last month.
Deric and Kristen Milligan started Inheritance of Hope to give families a unique opportunity to create fun, lasting memories together. They came up with the idea after Kristen was diagnosed with a rare terminal cancer.
In late February, Florida residents Ken and Veronica Miller and their children Chance, Autumn, and Kendall enjoyed an all-expenses paid weekend in New York. The family stayed a Willow Lake Cottages near Fishkill and included a day in New York City exploring the American Museum of Natural History, having dinner at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, and watching Mary Poppins on Broadway. It also featured snow-tubing at Thomas Bull State Park, a highlight for the entire Miller family.
“We had a date night for the parents, delicious meals catered to the Miller’s cabin, a video camera on hand to tape personal messages from the parents to their children, and even a handmade photo album complete with photos taken during the retreat,” said Deric Milligan. “We focused on having fun, creating precious, lifelong memories, and building a sense of community with the Miller family.”
Inheritance of Hope provides the experience free of charge. Transportation, lodging, meals, and activities are all paid for by Inheritance of Hope through tax-deductible donations made by individuals from throughout the country.
