General News: Cornwall United Soccer Girls Team

U9 GIRLS- SCORPIONS
Cornwall United’s U9 girls won their season opener 2-1 against the Storm from Red Hook.  Sydney Jurgens scored both goals for Cornwall.  Cornwall controlled the ball for most of the game, with Morgan VanLedtje, Sam Incognoli, Kelsey Burns, Monika Morasse, and Amelia Harding all coming close with shots.  Brynne Growney, Kayla Beckvermit, Briana Wallace, and Kate Gleason all played strong defense, while Taylor Filippone, Hannah Cast, Olivia Davet, and Erin Briggs secured the midfield for the majority of the game. Incognoli and Growney provided solid goaltending support.

U10 GIRLS- CHEETAHS
The U10 girls opened their season with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Wappingers Wolves. Despite their domination on the field, the Cheetahs quickly found themselves down 2-0. The team then regrouped and quickly tied the score 2-2. Despite the heat and humidity, the Cheetahs continued their aggressive play in the second half. Lillian Poling scored all 3 Cheetah goals. Kaitlyn Preiss, Katarina VanLedtje and Micah Wojehowski played exceptional defense. Jessica Dwyer, Giovanna Fichera and Leanne Casey were strong in the goal. Jillian Decker, Lauren Pinkham, Sam Nelbach and Emma Sabini were aggressive on offense with multiple shots on goal each. Great support was provided from the rotation of Ava Carter, Maddie Lander and Jillian Larson to provide everyone a break from the heat.

U12 GIRLS- DRAGON CLAWS
The CUSC Dragon Claws began this season with a strong 6-0 victory over the very competitive Goshen Wave.  Remarkable play was evident on both ends of the field.
The first goal of the season belonged to Julia Kerr. Goals were added by Ileana LaGrutta, Olivia Tellefsen, Victoria Collotti, and Alex Steinmann, who scored twice. The keepers, Samantha Sabini and Co-Captain Rebecca Baumel played aggressively and did not give up a goal.  
Outstanding foot skills were shown by Amanda Sarchino, Kelsey Fosstveit and Co-Captain Samantha Fowler. Great hustle was shown by everyone, particularly Jacqueline Hogan, Fiona Durkin, and Judy Dianis. Krissy McGonnigle was a standout on defense.
In spite of oppressive heat, the whole team used sharp passing, tenacious defense and aggressive offense to rack up an impressive victory in the first game of the season.

U14 GIRLS- SABRES
Cornwall United U14 Girls, the Sabres, tied the North Salem Honey Bees 1-1.Celina Carrero scored the Sabres only goal with an assist from Miranda Antinucci. Ally LaGrutta set up the play beautifully from her midfield position. Kristen Condosta, Kayla Brewer and Amanda Fasano played great on the defensive side of the field. Alejandra Cordero and Carly Tice kept the pressure on with numerous shots on goal in the second half. The whole Sabre team exhibited great teamwork, which was evident in their passing and their number of shots on goal.
