The geese at Ring’s pond are here to stay, according to a team from USDA who studied the geese problem with town board member Mary Beth Greene Krafft. “They are permanent residents,” Mrs. Greene Krafft told the board, “not migrating geese.”
Mrs. Greene Krafft reported that the USDA team concluded that the constant use of the park and its proximity to people in the area makes it difficult to use any of the techniques it normally employs to get rid of geese, including pyro-technics and border collies.
The USDA suggested in its report that Cornwall needs to “respect the geese” and “be understanding” of their habits. It also cautioned against feeding the birds, Mrs. Greene Krafft said.
Supervisor Randazzo said that the town has not given up on the geese problem and will continue to look for a solution for this municipality.
