General News: Snow, Freezing Rain Close Schools, Town

Bad weather shut down Cornwall town hall.

January 07, 2009

The town of Cornwall closed its offices on Wednesday, January 7, due to the freezing rain that is blanketing the area.   The storm began as snow Tuesday around 6 p.m. and changed to freezing rain overnight.

The Cornwall Central School District cancelled classes for the day as well.

Cornwall police chief Todd Hazard says that his offers have responded to three motor vehicle accidents this morning.  In two of the accidents, on Mineral Springs Road and on Route 94 and Jackson Avenue,  people had minor injuries.  The third accident occurred on Mill Street, Hazard said.

Wimps!
When I was a kid CCHS was the last to close and we had to walk 6 miles uphill both ways with holes in our shoes....and the snow was up to our necks!

This is because most every town in America refuses to look at planning ,instead they just plop buildings anywhere they please and now we are bussing kids at an astronomical price all the way to BFE. Growth needs to be controlled but I guess people perceive that growth is progress. Too bad for all of us, too bad for our children. Shame on all of us.

It has nothing to do with planning. It was dangerous to drive yesterday no matter how close or far you had to go!

Kate is right school would not have been canceled back in the day but DP used the operative word "DRIVE" sooo yesterday because everyone must drive to get to school it was canceled so in this day and age DP you are correct it was dangerous because we MUST drive thus it has everything to do with planning.
