General News: Drivers Reminded About Pedestrian Right-of-Way
September 02, 2007
Drivers in Cornwall-on-Hudson are getting a reminder about how pedestrian sidewalks are supposed to work.
Since Friday, August 31, Cornwall-on-Hudson police department officers have been stopping vehicles to hand out flyers asking people to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.
A number of new crosswalks have been created in the village this year but many drivers are not accustomed to stopping when they see a person on the sidewalk attempting to cross the street.
The notice quotes from the state law that says that pedestrians have the right of way and vehicles must slow down or stop to allow the pedestrian to cross.
