Local residents will have a unique opportunity to hear legendary folksinger Pete Seeger play along with his grandson Tan Rodriguez Seeger in a special concert on Saturday, November 15, at the Ritz Theater on Broadway in Newburgh.

The Seeger concert is part of a series to honor the memory of Tom Humphrey, a honor the famed Hudson Valley-based guitar maker who passed away earlier this year.  The concerts will benefit the restoration of the historic Ritz Theater in Newburgh.

Legendary singer, songwriter, and activist Pete Seeger will perform with his grandson, contemporary folk musician Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, who plays banjo, guitar, harmonica, and sings in both Spanish and English.  Seeger is truly “America’s tuning fork,” as noted by Downbeat Magazine.

Another concert in the series will be held on January 31, 2009, when eight-string guitarist, jazz violinist, mandolinist and composer, Michele Ramo of The Michéle Ramo Group will take the January 31st concert date.  Accompanying Ramo will be Arturo O’Farrill on piano, David Silliman on drums and percussion, David Dunaway on bass and Heidi Hepler on vocals.  Ramo and his world class group invoke Gypsy caravans, Sicily, Andalusia, Brazil, Harlem and points in between, and Detroit Jazz said “Ramo is a classical-jazz crossover artist in the truest sense of the word.”

On February 28th, the Ritz will welcome jazz guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli, performing with fellow jazz guitar greats Frank Vignola and Gene Bertoncini.  All About Jazz called Pizzarelli “the complete jazz musician.”  The series finale on April 25th will feature an evening of Flamenco music and dance featuring guitarist Dennis Koster, whom The New York Times called “Bold!...Brilliant!...Masterly!...Fantastic!”, along with some very special guests.

Each concert will be held at 8 p.m. in the lobby of the Ritz Theater at 111 Broadway in Newburgh, and tickets can be purchased through www.ticketweb.com or by calling (866) 468-7619.  All tickets are $25, are general admission and include a reception with the artists immediately following the concert.  Seating is limited.  Four-concert packs of tickets are also available and include seats in the first three rows.  For more information about the series, visit www.safe-harbors.org or call (845) 562-6940.
