Good things often come in small packages and now artists have two opportunities to show their creativity on a small canvas.
The first opportunity is for artists who work in miniature. Hudson Valley Gallery in Cornwall-on-Hudson is holding the World’s Smallest Stretched Canvas competition for creations on a 1” x 2” canvas. Anyone can try their skills out painting with oil or acrylics on these tiny surfaces and submit their entry by November 23, 2008. Prizes will be awarded – including $500 for a first place! All the submissions will be on exhibit at the gallery from December 5-31, 2008.

The town of Cornwall’s Culture Committee is holding its annual “Small Gems” art show and invites artists to hang their artwork at Town Hall for a month beginning November 17. Each artist is allowed to hang two pieces, no larger than 11 x 14 inches.
Show organizer Mary Ann G. Neuman has provided the following information about that show:
“All works may be offered for sale directly between you and the potential buyer. The Town of Cornwall takes no commission on any work sold and is not involved in any transactions. Please price your works accordingly. Prices will be placed on a collective price list which will be available for viewers.
As you select work for this exhibit please bear in mind that the Town Hall is a government building and open to the public – NUDES AND POLITICAL STATEMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. The committee reserves the right to reject any work deemed inappropriate.
The opening reception for this show will be held Friday, November 21, 2007 from 3 – 4:30 PM. There is no entrance fee for this show, however, each participant will be asked to contribute $5.00 toward the opening reception and to help defray the costs of maintaining the gallery.
