The Cornwall Community Co-op will kick off its 2008-2009 Membership Drive on Saturday, November 1st with a family fun Autumn Harvest Celebration from noon to 4PM.

The day will feature a children's story-time, hands-on demonstrations of dried herb crafts, acoustic music for all ages, warm fresh apple crisp with Hudson Valley cream, hot local cider, and children’s crafts.

There is no admission fee for the Autumn Harvest Celebration and all activities are open to the public. Organizers plan to recruit members for the Community Co-op, which hopes to have a least 300 member-owners before opening in 2009.

Co-op members are co-owners of the food cooperative and receive a number of benefits for their participation. “Member specials, educational opportunities, a voice in the co-op’s decision making and the satisfaction of participating in a sustainable community organization that brings local food to our community are all part of the benefits package,” said Stella Quinn, Cornwall Community Co-op organizer.

To kick-off the celebration and membership drive, individuals and families that join on November 1st will be able to sign up for a Local Foods Buying Club. For the first order members can choose from a variety of foods just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday – free range, fresh, organic turkeys from Hemlock Hill Farm, locally baked bread and sweet treats from Wild Hive Farm, fresh apple cider from Roe’s Orchards, NY State goat cheese, and a local root vegetable assortment.

Ms. Quinn noted that the buying club will have an assortment of fresh and local products available for once a month pick up. The first order will begin on November 1st at the Autumn Harvest Celebration and pick up will be held on November 25th, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

For more information about the Autumn Harvest Celebration and the Cornwall Community Co-op, call 845-534-0626 or email Stella Quinn at [email protected].  The Autumn Harvest Celebration will be held at the home of the Cornwall Community Co-op, located at 208 Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
