General News: Master Plan Sent to Village Board

July 24, 2007

Mayor Joe Gross, who says he has not yet had a chance to read the 100-page plan, indicated that the village board would likely hold another public hearing, or hearings, on it. The plan must still be submitted to Orange County officials for approval.

The final draft reflects comments made at a public hearing in April, one of several held over the course of the last year-and-a half to solicit input into charting a course for future development in the village.

Master plan committee chair Lee Murphy said there were some minor modifications made to the plan after the April hearing.

Among the issues criticized at that time was the plan’s recommendation to replace the fire siren with a paging system because of the high-decibel level of the siren.

The final draft revisits the issue of the health hazard posed by high-volume levels of the siren and recommends that the village and fire department “work together to study the strategic placement of two additional fire siren towers to cover the entire community at audibly lower sound volume levels.”

Murphy reminds residents that the document is really their document, a result of the work of the committee members and the dozens of people who shared their input at public hearings.

Murphy called on the public to encourage the village board of trustees to adopt and implement the plan.

“I certainly trust that the mayor and trustees will be sensitive to the fact that 11 citizens of the community worked long and hard for a couple of years on the document and I hope that they give it careful consideration,” Murphy said.

In addition to Murphy, the Master Plan Committee members are: Peter Duggan, Jerry Gage, Barbara Gosda, Kirkpatrick MacDonald, Andy Maroney, Chris Olander, Harriet Sandmeier, Kris Seiz, and Jeff Small.
