General News: Notes from the Village Board Meeting
July 18, 2007
** The issue of unwanted phone books lives on. Village resident Barry Gruber asked the board to write a letter to the New York State Attorney General requesting an opinion about where the legal authority comes from for the phone companies to distribute the hefty books. The board agreed.
** The board approved the use of the village firehouse as a social venue during the annual Firemen's Fair from July 25-28. Social use of the firehouse was reneged by the board earlier this year following an incident of alcohol being served to a minor during the Christmas holiday.
** With no formal policy on group use of Donahue Memorial Park, the board approved the request by the Friends of Cornwall Public Library to hold a book exchange and ice cream social there on August 19, from 4 to 6 p.m.
** John Wenz, the head of the Riverfront Revitalization Committee, announced the committee has filed a proposal requesting a $25,000 grant from the DEC estuary program to develop riverfront access. Wenz also said that the $60,000 project to build a low-profile pier head would have to go out to bid.
** Wenz nominated two new members to the Riverfront committee, Ron Salvator, of the Cornwall Yacht Club, and David Works, a local environmental consultant.
** The village board agreed to pay $18,000 for required auditing services, $3,000 more than what was budgeted.
