General News: Man Tries to Get Free Gas, Police Say

July 17, 2008

Cornwall police arrested a man on Monday after he allegedly tried get gas for free from the Citgo station on Route 9W.

Cornwall police sargeant Steven Dixon said that 22-year-old Michael Ferlita, of Marlboro, had no funds when he tried to solicit gas from the clerk at the Citgo station.  When the clerk notified police, Ferlita fled and headed to the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Cornwall police sargeant Philip Sinagra alerted village police who located the suspect at Cumberland Farms, where he had parked his black Acura at the fuel pump.

Cornwall police were called and determined that Ferlita had no driver’s license but did have a stolen credit card, Dixon said.  Ferlita was charged with possession of stolen property and his vehicle was impounded.
