Villagers Gathered to Dedicate Gazebo |
August 05, 2006
Under a brilliant blue sky, the newly-built gazebo in Donahue Memorial Park was dedicated to former deputy mayor Tony Ferraro this morning by Cornwall-on-Hudson mayor Ed Moulton.
Moulton, speaking to a crowd of about 30 people, remembered Ferraro as a true leader who served not only as a village trustee and deputy mayor but also has the president of the Little League and a founder of Riverfest.
Ferraro died suddenly in 2004. Jeanne Mahoney, the village clerk, recalls him with fondness. "Tony was a great guy," she said. "We miss him a lot."
The gazebo, which was built with $120,000 of county and state funds, is a neo-classical structure that hugs the north end of the park. Moulton said that the village expects to get Central Hudson to bring power to the structure so that concerts could be held there. He also mentioned that the village will put some picnic tables inside so that people can enjoy the gazebo and riverfront in bad weather, too.
As Moulton remembered Ferraro, he told those present to "drop by and say hello to Tony. I'm sure he's around here somewhere."
