General News: Village Settles With Fired Employee

May 30, 2008

The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by Debra Foster following her termination as deputy village treasurer in September 2006.

Foster filed suit against Mayor Moulton and the village government two months after the board of trustees voted unanimously to either accept a resignation from Foster or terminate her employment.

The suit alleged that the village had violated her civil rights.  No one involved in the case is talking about the settlement, which was approved by the board of trustees on Wednesday, May 28.

Kristen Burke, a New York City attorney who represented the village, says “the matter has been resolved by mutual agreement,” a statement echoed by Foster’s attorney, Jane Gould.

If the settlement includes a monetary settlement it will likely be paid by an insurance company and not out of the village’s operating budget.

Comments:

The Moulton administration strikes again.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the Moulton Administration. It is quite possible that this prior employee was just incompetent.
