General News: Cornwall United Soccer Week 6

U9 GIRLS

Cornwall United’s U9 girls fell to a faster and quicker Red Hook team 2-1. Amelia Harding scored Cornwall’s lone goal after Olivia Davet & Sydney Jurgens provided some great passes to set up the score. Samantha Incognoli was instrumental in keeping the score down, as she continually ran the length of the field to cut off the Storm’s attack.

U10 GIRLS
The U10 girls lost a competitively close game to the LaGrange Cheetahs 5-3 this past Sunday. Down 2-0, the Cornwall Cheetahs fought back to 3-2 but faded in the end.  Micah Wojehowski, Jillian Decker and Lilian Poling each scored a goal for the hometown team. Ava Carter and Lauren Pinkham played hard in goal doing their best to hold off the visitors. Kaitlyn Preiss, Katarina VanLedtje, Jillian Larson, Emma Sabini and Maddie Lander were big contributors in the open field. While Leanne Casey, Sam Nelbach, Giovanna Fichera and Jessica Dwyer played several different positions on the field

U10 BOYS

The U10 Rovers beat the Shrub Oak Wildcats 4-2.  The Rovers controlled the tempo most of the match, scoring two early goals in the opening minutes of the game by Aleks Rosenbaum and Salatiel Carino.  Carino added his second goal of the game, Cornwall’s third, by heading in a corner kick by Aiden O’Keefe.  The Wildcats came back to score off a penalty kick after a Cornwall handball in the penalty box.  The Rovers finished the half with a goal from Kieran McVan leading 4-1. Michael McLaughlin and David Schuyler shared goalkeeping responsibilities for the Rovers with Ian Anderson, Raffaelle Aversa, Carl Poling, and David Brubacher showing great hustle in midfield and defensive play.

U12 GIRLS-DRAGONFIRE

The U12 Dragonfire toppled Cortlandt 3-2. The girls took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a breakaway by Caroline Staudle. Kelly Gleason, Renee Briggs and Hailey Lindenberger helped spirit the offensive run while Alex Jurgens, Laura Craig and Erin Hussey powered the defense for Dragonfire. Caroline Staudle headed in the second goal for Cornwall on as assist from Kamryn Brown.  Cortlandt then evened the score with a second goal tying the game, 2-2. Amanda Gallardo sunk the game-determining goal with 35 seconds left on a corner kick from Lexci Modlinski.  Cathy Eliason made 12 saves in goal.

U12 BOYS

The Dragons 99 lost to Washingtonville 6-1.Outstanding hustle from the Dragons who were down a man but fought hard all game. Great overall effort by Matt De Souza. Ryan Mellino was strong on defense while Eduardo Bello made some nice saves in goal.  Michael Vecchio scored the lone Cornwall goal with an assist by Damon Neil.

U13 BOYS
The Cobras played a hard fought match in a steady rain that resulted in a 2-2 draw with their Warwick rivals. The Cobras dominated the action, but still gave up an early goal.  Jake Ross tied it on a beautiful shot off the crossbar to finish the half at 1-1.  The second half saw Warwick take the lead again, but Eduardo Mejia scored on a beautiful flick header off a direct kick by Andrew Brellis to tie it at 2.  Offensive standouts included Joe Valle and Pat McVan while Eddie Flores played a flawless game on defense.

U14 GIRLS
The U14 Girls Sabres trounced North Salem by a score of 6-0. Carly Tice started the scoring barrage with goal off of a perfect pass from Celina Carrero who then netted the Sabres' second goal. Melissa Mariani nailed a rebound shot from Tice that extended the lead to 3-0. Miranda Antinucci sped past the defenders to score and give the Sabres a 4-0 advantage. Midfielders Alejandara Cordero, Andrea Mancuso, Amanda Fasano and Allyson LaGrutta controlled the game from start to finish. Allyson and Amanda chipped in with second half goals that finished the scoring at 6-0. Gabby Chamberland recorded her fourth shutout of the season and eighth in a row.
