Some twenty million people are going to get a chance to learn about Cornwall today, April 30, when they tune in to the Oprah show (4 p.m. locally on ABC-TV).

That’s when they will see a story about David Blaine, the magician who will attempt to break the world’s record for holding his breath underwater in a glass ball built at Center Line Studio in Cornwall.

The Oprah segment shows how the ball was taken from the local studio, where it was built, put on a truck and sent to Chicago. Center Line Marketing director Jennifer Migdal says the show will feature a map showing Cornwall with a dotted line tracing the ball’s journey to Chicago.

Blaine used the same ball, which cost $200,000 to construct, in his unsuccessful attempt to break a record for holding his breath underwater last year at Lincoln Center.

Migdal said that the Oprah show sent crews to Cornwall to shoot the segment but had to promise to keep it under wraps. Center Line personnel were on hand in Chicago for today's show.

Although today’s Oprah show has already been taped, locals viewers should tune in to find out if Blaine succeeds in holding his breath for 17 minutes.

Another national television show will feature a Cornwall resident on Thursday, May 1.

Byron Gray, the 20-year-old son of the owners of Center Line Studio, was chosen from a group of art students to sketch the portrait of actress Gwyneth Paltrow on the MTV show called Total Request Live (TRL).

Gray, a student at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, was chosen because of his talents and speed, said Center Line Studio’s Migdal.

TRL airs at 3:30 p.m. on MTV.
