General News: School District to Discuss Legacy Ridge

March 27, 2008

The Cornwall School District is holding a meeting on Monday, March 31, at 6 p.m. to discuss the impact of the Legacy Ridge development. The meeting will be held at Cornwall elementary school at Lee Road.

The planned Legacy Ridge development consists of 287 homes on 749 acres in the area of Mineral Springs and Trout Brook Roads – an area of Woodbury that lies in the Cornwall school district.

It is estimated that the families who will move into those homes between 2010 and 2014 will send 285 children to Cornwall schools, according to an environmental report submitted by the developers. The report also points out that some of the schools are already nearing or exceeding capacity, presenting an issue that must be addressed by the district regardless of the Legacy Ridge project.

Will the public be able to speak at this meeting?

The Legacy Ridge development will generate the amount of children attending Cornwall schools ONLY according to the attorney for the project. His numbers were based on dated material from a Rutgers study. We will surely be having more than 1 student per home in ths community of 4 bedrooms starting at the inflated price of 600 thousand plus in this GATED community. Orange County Planniong Dept. has terrible concerns about the prices being over inflated, so the taxation rate is inflated as well. And the monies generated from tax revenues are not as beneficial to the school system as proported. Furthermore this is not about this development, it's about WATER.AND MORE DEVELOPMENTS. WATCH OUT CORNWSALL, THERE IS MORE. AND WE ARE ABOUT TO BE THROWN UNDER THE BUS! Attend the School Meeting to voice your concerns, and come to the Town Board Meeting April 7 at 7:30. BE ACTIVE, STAY INFORMED.
