General News: Boil Water Alert Lifted

April 19, 2007

The Orange County Department of Health has lifted its advisory to boil water supplied by the Cornwall-on-Hudson water department, according to water department clerk Mary Ellen Dennett.

Dennett said that water superintendent Bob June got the word from Orange County late this afternoon. The advisory was lifted because no contaminates were found in the water samples sent to the laboratory for testing.

Concern about the water supply surfaced Monday morning when flood waters inundated the water well field in Mountainville. Village authorities say the advisory to boil water before drinking or to drink bottled water was put in place as a precautionary measure and no real threat had ever been identified.
Here's the official notice:

NOTICE TO CONSUMERS
BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED
The Boil Water Notice, issued by the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Water Department and the Orange County Health Department on April 16, 2007, is hereby lifted.  It is no longer recommended that all water used from the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Public Water supply for either drinking or food preparation be rapidly boiled for at least two (2) minutes prior to use.

According to the Orange County Health Department, samples collected have demonstrated that the water is safe to consume in accordance with New York State Health Department regulations.  The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Water Department collected random samples, sent them to an outside laboratory for testing, and has confirmed that the samples collected over two (2) consecutive days do not indicate the presence of coliform.

If you have any questions relative to the utilization of water from this supply, please do not hesitate to contact the water supplier at (845) 534-4200.
Dated:  April 19, 2007
Robert L. June
Water Superintendent
