St. Thomas of Canterbury School's Lady Wolverines finished their season 19-0 on Sunday with a 31-23 victory over St. Stephens of Warwick. The girls took to the court of Mount St. Mary's with sheer determination but were lacking energy early in the game. Erin McFadden started the scoring for St. Thomas, sinking an early jump shot and Meghan Meyers and Meghan Gallivan both scored two, ending the first quarter 6-4.
St. Stephens shut down St. Thomas in the second quarter, with Modi McDonnell getting into early foul trouble, and took the lead, 13-10 at the half.
Rejuvenated, the Wolverines returned to the court with intensity, unleashing Megan and Caroline Staudle and Modi McDonnell on the offensive. They tallied 13 points in the third quarter and held St. Stephens to five to go ahead 23-18. The spark continued on in the final quarter of the game with many turnovers bringing St. Thomas to their 31-23 victory.
Megan and Caroline Staudle both scored 10 points and Modi McDonnell had five points. This is the teams' second Orange County Parochial School League (OCPSL) championship in three years, bringing their record to 39-1. Coaches Ed Staudle, Andrew Gallivan and Tony Adolino are very proud of this team's ability, effort and sportsmanship on and off the court.
Megan and Caroline Staudle were both named to the OCPSL "All Tournament Team."
