General News: Girls Varsity Team Results
March 14, 2008
The Cornwall girls varsity basketball team narrowly lost the state Class A semi-final game against Honeoye Falls-Lima, which ended with a final score of 42-39.
The Lady Dragons were putting the heat on their opponents in the final seconds of the game, when an official called a technical foul against Cornwall. With two successful foul shots and the ball in their possession, the players from Honeoye Falls-Lima were able to claim victory in the very tight game.
Cornwall schools athletic director Lou Cioffi said the players were "devastated" after the game, which was held at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y. "With a close game like that, it's tough," Cioffi said. "But they've got nothing to be ashamed of, they had a great year."
Cioffi also said that Allison Cleary was selected as the All-Star player for the Class A team and Kelly Whalen received the Sportsmanship award.
