Cornwall-on-Hudson mayor Joseph Gross reports that Central Hudson crews are working to restore full power to the neighborhood of Cliffside Park by nightfall Sunday.
The outage occurred after a power line was knocked over at the top of Dock Hill Road during Saturyday night's wind storm, throwing the neighborhood of Cliffside Park into darkness. Mayor Gross says that the biggest problem for residents overnight and during Sunday was that boilers and furnaces didn't work and people were cold.
Karen Schaack, a resident of the area, reports that people coped with the loss of power. "Some people with wood-burning stoves kept warm and other snuggled in bed and some did both," says Schaack. "Many checked on each others and opened our homes to keep each other warm."
At midday the village opened the community room of the Storm King Fire Engine Company #2 to anyone displaced by the outage, offering hot chocolate and coffee. Mayor Gross says that no one came to the center but the police went door-to-door in the neighborhood to check on their wellbeing.
