General News: Candidates Sought for School Board

Do you want to have a voice in how the Cornwall school system operates? If so, the Board of Education is looking for people who would like to run for three open seats on the board.
If you are interested in running for a position, you may pick up an election petition from the school district office at 24 Idlewild Avenue in Cornwall-on-Hudson during business hours. The deadline for filing a petition is Monday, April 16 at 5 p.m. Candidates will run for a three-year term.
Two of the three open seats are being vacated by current board members Christina Longinott and Sue Lennon. The third seat is held by Brendan G. Coyne, the board president, who plans to run for a third term. Longinott served for nine years, two as president, and Lennon served for three years and is presently vice president of the board.
The school board election will be held on May 15 at the same time as the school budget vote. For more information about the petition process and the requirements for board members, you may call the district office at 534-8009.
