General News: Hudson-Fulton Committee Seeks Volunteers
January 29, 2008
The Hudson-Fulton 2009 celebration has an official website for Cornwall now with the launching of www.cornwalls2009.org.
The site, which is still under construction, was created by Wynn Gold, a member of the Cornwalls Coalition Committee, who all introduce themselves and welcome new members to join their effort. The group held its first meeting last week.
The Hudson-Fulton celebration marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s sail up the river that now bears his name. He dropped anchor in Cornwall Bay and pronounced the location a good place to build a town. It also marks the 400th anniversary of Frenchman’s Samuel de Champlain’s exploration of the boundaries of Lake Champlain.
Two hundred years later, Robert Fulton launched his successful steamship, the Clermont, on the Hudson, launching a new era of trade and commerce. Fulton’s accomplishments will also be part of the grand celebration that will include fairs, festivals, light shows and regattas.
If you would like to volunteer to be part of the Hudson-Fulton celebration, visit www.cornwalls2009.org and send an email as instructed.
