General News: Gilmore Considers Run for Office

Bob Gilmore

January 16, 2008

Bob Gilmore, the former head of the village’s Department of Public Works, is considering a run for public office.

Gilmore, who retired from his position as superintendent last October after 36 years in the department, picked up a petition on Monday to get his name on the ballot in the village trustee election on March 18.

In a phone interview, Gilmore said that he is also considering a run for mayor next year. “I’ve been approached by a lot of people who want me to run. They are not happy with the current mayor and his decision-making, or lack there of,” Gilmore said, noting that he is “looking at all my options.”

Gilmore said he will decide next week whether he will run for trustee. If he does, he will need to get 75 signatures on the petition that must be submitted by February 12 in order to be eligible for the election.

Two current trustees whose seats are up for re-election, Charles (Rudy) Hahn and Peter Miller, both say they intend to run. Village resident Barbara Gosda has also thrown her hat in.

Gilmore said that a run for public office would be in keeping with this involvement in the community. He said he has always participated in town and village activities, noting his nine years as a member of the school board, including one as president, and involvement in COVAC and the Little League.

Comments:

Glimore has caused trouble when he worked with the last mayor It looks like he is trying to start up again I hope the people have nothing to do with his trouble making

So close to the holidays,
yet so soon to rekindle the kind of unseemly anger that adds little to our political life here in the Village.I can't sign Bob's petition, should he decide to run...I had
already signed for others...but I surely would consider doing so because I'm ready to hear what all the candidates have to say.
Then, I'll comment with my vote on election day.

Joe is doing a fine job and I think we the people in the village need to expand with fresh ideas from our trustees.
