Historic Taverns of Orange County Series continues at Painter’s Restaurant in Cornwall

Fourth “Tavern Trail” event of season set for July 29 at popular inn, restaurant and art gallery

Goshen, N.Y. – Painter’s Restaurant in Cornwall will host the fourth session of the Orange County Historian’s Historic Taverns of Orange County Series at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29.

The event starts with a “history happy hour.” Local historian Colette Fulton will give a brief presentation about the history of Painter’s Restaurant.

“We are all excited that the Tavern Trail events continue to gain popularity,” Orange County Historian Johanna Yaun said. “Word is getting out and Painter’s Restaurant will provide another great venue for the series. We are looking forward to another wonderful event at Painter’s.”

Each month, from April through October, local historians, museum professionals, and members of the public are invited to visit a different Orange County restaurant or pub located in a historic building for a discussion of local history in a relaxed atmosphere. Painter’s is an inn, a restaurant, and an art gallery. It opened in October of 1985 in the old Storm King Theater. Painter’s offers an eclectic menu, featuring Italian, Japanese, Mexican and American fare, served in a casual atmosphere.

Guests wishing to stay for optional dinner at 7:00 p.m. must RSVP directly with Painter's Restaurant at 534-2109 or [email protected]. Painter’s website address is: painters-restaurant.com. Before the Tavern Trail event, guests are invited to attend an “Early Bird Tour” of the historic Sands Ring Homestead at 4 p.m. at 180 Main Street in Cornwall. Built in 1760 and used as a Quaker meeting house and store, this National Register of Historic Places-listed house was recently restored and just reopened to the public. For more information, call 391-2991 or visit www.sandsring.org.
