Hundreds of people crowded into the village square on New Year’s Eve to swing to the sounds of performer Sebastian Damico. The singer impersonated famous crooners from Elvis to Mick Jagger and ended with a rousing version of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” just before the ball drop. Damico danced on a temporary stage that had been built above the marquee of the Storm King Theater.
As the 5-foot wide ball descended, the crowd counted down to zero, then welcomed in the new year, 2008, with noisemakers, kisses, and general merriment.
Police chief Charles Williams estimates around 500 people joined the merriment. The crowd has been growing larger every year since the ball was first dropped in 2001.
The annual New Year’s Eve ball drop has become a local spectacle, drawing a community of friends and neighbors who choose to spend the new year together in the square.
This year, building owner Ray Yannone, his daughter, Elizabeth, and son, Ray, Jr., combined their energies and talents to pull off an event worth remembering.

What a hoot! Thanks to the Yannones for organizing the affaire, it was wonderful to be able to congregate in the square and celebrate, although, did somebody forget to tell ElvMick that after the ball drops you sing Auld Lang Syne????? ...that's OK we went home and sang it!
