March 3, 2007
Dear Cornwall on Hudson Residents:
Here – in draft form – is the Comprehensive Master Plan a committee of your neighbors has worked for two years to create. This volunteer process involved regular open meetings at which consensus agreements were reached following lengthy discussion of words and meanings … intentions and likely consequences.
Not a radical document, the Plan suggests ways in which we firmly believe that our community can best retain its special character while at the same time allow the Village to take some careful steps to best assure a reasonable evolution into the 21st century.
In the committee’s collection judgment (shared by many of those whose opinions we sought while developing the Plan) Cornwall on Hudson must be master of its own destiny, or see the oncoming pressures of potentially undesirable, poorly planned growth overtake us.
As presented here, the Plan awaits some statistical data that must be manually culled from the office of the Town Assessor, as well as Traffic Study materials currently being prepared. A few footnotes will almost certainly have to be added but these will in no way change the meaning of the document to all of us.
The committee members who’ve performed so diligently on your behalf to produce the Plan are:
Peter Duggan
Jerry Gage
Barbara Gosda
Kirkpatrick MacDonald
Andy Maroney
Chris Olander
Harriet Sandmeier
Kris Seiz, and
Jeff Small
We all look forward eagerly to conducting a final Public Hearing, so that we may answer any questions as to the thinking that’s brought us to the recommendations we present to you now.
In addition to website distribution, multiple paper copies of the document are being prepared and will become available at the Village Hall and at the Cornwall Library. We appreciate everyone’s assistance in helping to make the Plan so widely accessible.
We truly hope that you will take time to consider the Plan and its place in the future of Corrnwall on Hudson, the home all of us hold so dear.
Sincerely,
Lee Murphy, Chair
